*Chimposiums at CWU

This will be the last year to visit the Ellensburg chimpanzees who have earned American Sign Language through the the Chimposium program. Friends of Washoe and Central Washington University announced in the best interests of Chimps Tatu and Loulis, they will move to another sanctuary. The late Washoe was the first non-human to acquire a human language.Currently, Friends of Washoe are working towards relocating Tatu and Loulis to the Fauna Foundation Sanctuary in Québec, Canada. Fauna Foundation has applied to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for a permit that would allow the transfer.
Don’t miss this last chance to attend the one-hour, educational workshops, called Chimposiums, involving world-renowned signing chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute is located on the campus of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.Enjoy a 30 minute presentation about chimpanzee culture, current threats, CWU Chimpanzees who use American Sign Language. 20 minutes observation of 2 chimpanzees ages 6 and older.

The tour begins at Yakima's Premier Coffee House, located in the street level of what was once the 1914 Hotel Michigan. Our space is complete with original wood floors, brick exterior and sidewalk skylights. The upper level features a time ceiling typical of the early 1900's. We provide upstairs and downstairs seating that can accommodate over 50 people and free internet access.

The Bus arrives at Yakima Visitors Center (near the target store) at 10:30 AM for tour departure at 11 AM. Please park in the North parking lot nearest the motel. Seats may be reserved on the 'Book Your Seat' page here, or, you may 'Step On' just before departure if there are seats available. There are 13 seats on the bus.To pay for your fare at the bus: Cash is accepted, or I can swipe your card with a secure, merchant account system through my iPhone. (Or one can make reservations over the phone well in advance, and mail a check so that it clears before the tour date).
Saturday tours are $55/person for 5+ hours of touring, (incl taxes).
Sunday tours are $40/person for 3+ hours of touring, (incl taxes).

A Kiddie Parade, Hot Dogs, Sack Races, Bingo, Ice Cream, Stage Show, Obsticle Course, Car Show, Hamburgers, and .... of course FIREWORKS! What do all of these have in common.... Why its the annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration in Prosser.THIS YEAR the fun begins at 10:00 am in the City Park as the Car Show, Concessions Stands, and Bingo provide a little something for everyone. Then at 11:00 pm the Kiddie Parade starts at the Courthouse and continues through town endingaup at the city park. From there its more fun for the whole family with games, a bouncy toy obsticle course, and entertainment that is sure to please. At 11:30 am on Sylvan Stage enjoy songs from the 40"s with the Sevigny Sisters. Then at 12:30 pm the annual Little Miss Prosser and Little Junior Miss Prosser contestants show off their stuff. Come cheer on your favorites and see who wins the crown. The festivities go on until 3 pm just in time for those backyard family barbeques. Then at dust around 10:00 pm, the Prosser Rotary Club's annual fireworks display is the highlight of the day. For a great viewing spot, check out Art Fiker Stadium on Paterson Rd.

*Toppenish Pro West Rodeo

The Toppenish Pro-Western Rodeo will be held July 5th-6th at the Toppenish Rodeo Grounds, located at 600 South Division. Over 150 contestants will compete in all of the traditional rodeo events from saddle bronc riding and team roping to bull riding and steer wrestling. Over $5000 in prize money is at stake.
The rodeo will start at 7:30 p.m. each night. General admission to the grounds is free. Parking is $2. Rodeo ticket prices are: Adult (13 years and up): 1-day pass $10, 2-day pass $18. Children( 8-12 years): 1-day pass $6, 2-day pass $10. Children 7 and under are free.
