The Tieton River turns into a whitewater rafter and kayaker's dream. The river is a fast-paced, intermediate run that is consistently good due to the annual agricultural water release that more than doubles the river's normal flow. Zillah's harvest celebration, Not Just a Farmers Market, occurs annually the Saturday after Labor Day in downtown Zillah. Forty to sixty vendors sell local produce, wood furniture, arts and crafts, food, and many unique items. There is live entertainment all day long which varies from bands to dance groups. Hosted by the Yakima Valley Museum and Tree Top. A total of $35,000 in prize money will be awarded. Beer and wine garden. Over 70 teams competing. Open to the public (entry fee). Purchase script and enjoy tastings of meats, veggies, desserts, and other goodies. Cooking demonstrations. Live music by Chad Bault, Prairie Flyer, Roy Kay Combo, Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs, and Humphrey, Harman and Cameron.
Admission to the event is $12 for one day, $20 for two days includes one complimentary beverage. Children 12 and under are free. Hours are 11am-10pm on Saturday, Sept. 11th, and 10am-6pm on Sunday, Sept. 12th. For information, call 509-248-0747.
